Defence Minister Meets Diaspora Mentoring Group on Unity, Security

Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (retd), has met with leaders of the Nationals in Diaspora Mentoring Corp (NIDMECORP) to explore stronger collaboration on diaspora engagement, national unity and leadership development.
The meeting, held in Abuja, brought together the Defence Minister and NIDMECORP’s International Mentoring Commandant and Ambassador, Alistair, during a courtesy visit aimed at deepening ties between government institutions and diaspora-led organisations.
Discussions focused on the role of Nigerians living abroad in supporting national security, leadership capacity-building and Nigeria’s participation in global policy and investment conversations.
Ambassador Alistair said Nigerians in the diaspora remain committed to the country’s progress and see themselves as key stakeholders in building a secure, inclusive and internationally respected Nigeria.
He noted that as some Western countries adopt more inward-looking policies, Nigeria must strengthen internal cohesion while strategically engaging its diaspora through advocacy, skills transfer, mentoring and international engagement.
Responding, General Musa thanked the delegation for their visit and reaffirmed his commitment to national unity, stressing that Nigeria belongs to all its citizens and that unity is central to national security and development.
He added that security goes beyond protecting lives and property, emphasizing the need for stable leadership and coordinated efforts to attract investment, promote public confidence and enhance Nigeria’s standing within Africa and globally.
