The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has called on Nigerian women to become more actively involved in politics in order to influence national conversations and decision-making.
She made the appeal while delivering a keynote address at an International Women’s Day event organised by Zenith Bank in Lagos. The programme, held at the Civic Centre, focused on empowering women to take leadership roles in various sectors of society.
Speaking on the theme “Take It, You Own It,” Dabiri-Erewa stressed the importance of solidarity among women, urging them to support one another while working collectively toward national development.
According to her, greater participation by women in governance and political processes is essential for building a more inclusive and balanced society.
She also acknowledged the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for promoting women through both elective and appointive positions in government.
Dabiri-Erewa further commended Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for initiatives aimed at improving the welfare and opportunities available to women and children across the country.
In her remarks, the Group Managing Director of Zenith Bank, Dame Adaora Umeoji, encouraged women to demonstrate courage, commitment and vision in their professional and personal pursuits.
The annual International Women’s Day seminar hosted by the bank is designed to provide a platform for leadership development, professional growth and dialogue on issues affecting women, while promoting empowerment and inclusive economic participation.
