Nigerian lawyer and human rights advocate Chidi Odinkalu has been honoured with the 2026 Paddock Teaching Award by The Fletcher School at Tufts University for his impact in teaching and mentorship.

The award, regarded as one of the institution’s highest teaching honours, celebrates faculty members who demonstrate exceptional dedication to students, strong command of their field, and excellence in classroom engagement. Established in 1993, the recognition was created in memory of Professor James L. Paddock.

Odinkalu, a former chairman of National Human Rights Commission, was selected following nominations submitted by students and approval by the school’s Student Council.

In a statement shared by the Henry J. Leir Institute for Migration and Human Security, the institute praised Odinkalu for his commitment to teaching and his active involvement within the Fletcher community.

The institute described the recognition as a reflection of the positive experiences students have had under his instruction and acknowledged his contribution to academic excellence and human rights education.

With the latest recognition, Odinkalu joins a distinguished list of previous recipients of the Paddock Teaching Award, including Michael J. Glennon, Dyan Mazurana, and Carolyn Gideon.
