Canadian Deputy High Commissioner Visits Lagos Ministry of Tourism

Carlos Rojas-Arbulu, Deputy High Commissioner of Canada in Lagos, paid a courtesy visit to the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture to enhance collaboration in tourism, arts, and the creative economy. The meeting was attended by Special Adviser Idris Aregbe, Permanent Secretary Bopo Oyekan-Ismaila, and other stakeholders.


The engagement focused on building institutional linkages between Lagos and Canada, promoting market access, capacity building, and international investment opportunities for Nigerian creatives. Rojas-Arbulu noted Canada’s growing interest in Nigeria’s music, film, fashion, and culinary sectors.

Citing global Nigerian artists like Burna Boy and Rema, the Deputy High Commissioner highlighted cultural exchanges as a tool for strengthening people-to-people ties and driving economic growth. Canada is projected to become a leading destination for Nigerian artists by 2025.

The Ministry reaffirmed Lagos’ commitment to positioning tourism, arts, and culture as economic diversification pillars, emphasizing structured programs to connect local talent with global platforms and investors.


The visit concluded with a performance by the Lagos State Council Troupe, showcasing the state’s rich cultural heritage and underscoring the importance of international partnerships in expanding Lagos’ creative economy.
