Canada is set to begin issuing thousands of invitations under the 2025 Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP), offering permanent residents and citizens a fresh opportunity to sponsor their loved ones.

Starting July 28, 2025, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will invite 17,860 potential sponsors from the 2020 interest-to-sponsor pool. These individuals will be eligible to submit applications to bring their parents or grandparents to Canada permanently. The government aims to approve up to 10,000 complete applications this year.
This latest round continues Canada’s efforts to prioritize family reunification, which currently accounts for around 22% of the country’s total permanent resident admissions. The IRCC has confirmed it will not be opening a new pool for 2025; instead, all invitations will go to those who had previously submitted an interest form in October 2020.

Selected sponsors will receive instructions to apply via either the Permanent Residence Portal or the Representative Portal, streamlining the submission process. For those not invited, the Super Visa remains an alternative path, allowing extended stays of up to five years per visit, with possible extensions of two more years.
The Parents and Grandparents Program remains a key part of Canada's broader immigration strategy to build inclusive and supportive communities by reconnecting families.
