A group of twelve Nigerian doctors, all practicing in the United States and United Kingdom, have come together to establish a state-of-the-art medical facility in Anambra State, signaling a bold move to reshape Nigeria’s struggling health sector.
Named Pinnacle Consultant Hospital and Clinics Limited, the new facility is located in Ojoto, Idemili-South LGA, and aims to deliver globally-aligned, evidence-based healthcare to communities long underserved by the system.
Speaking during the groundbreaking event, Professor Okonkwo Fidin, who chairs the hospital's board, described the initiative as a response to years of professional frustration with Nigeria’s healthcare standards. He recounted personal stories of loved ones lost to medical negligence, calling it a wake-up call to act rather than lament.

“This hospital isn’t just a building,” said Fidin. “It’s a movement to prove that Nigerians deserve the same quality of care we deliver abroad.”
Dr. Ambrose Okonkwo, a family physician based in North Carolina and an indigene of Ojoto, noted that the vision behind Pinnacle was inspired by a desire to close the gap between healthcare at home and abroad. “Too many lives are lost due to treatable conditions. This is our own way of giving back with real impact.”
Traditional ruler of Ojoto, HRH Igwe Gerald Obunadike Mbamalu, welcomed the development with open arms, promising local support and security for the hospital.
“This is not just for Ojoto it is for all of Anambra and beyond,” he said. “It will save lives, reduce the cost of seeking care abroad, and provide dignity to our people.”
Set to include departments for all major specialties, the hospital will also house diagnostic and emergency units capable of handling complex cases, a key step in combating Nigeria’s dependence on foreign medical treatment.
The diaspora-led initiative comes at a critical time for the country’s healthcare system, offering a hopeful blueprint for change driven not by politics, but by passion and professional excellence.
