Canada-based Nigerian Arrested After Alleged Stabbing of Roommate in Ontario

A Nigerian man living in Canada has been taken into custody by police in Ontario following an alleged violent altercation with his roommate that left one person seriously injured.
The suspect, identified as 38-year-old Nnamdi Enunwa, was arrested on January 1, 2026, after police responded to reports of an assault involving a weapon at a residence in Oshawa. The incident occurred in the area of Ritson Road North and Adelaide Avenue East.
According to police, officers arrived at the scene around 7:30 p.m. and found both the suspect and the victim inside the residence. The victim, whose identity was not disclosed, sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Mr Enunwa was arrested at the scene without resistance and taken into custody. Authorities confirmed that he has been charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, and possession of a weapon for the purpose of committing a criminal offence. He remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
Police in the Central East Division said investigations into the incident are ongoing and stressed that the allegations have not yet been tested in court. They appealed to members of the public who may have relevant information to contact the Central East Division Criminal Investigations Branch.
Law enforcement also encouraged individuals with anonymous tips to reach out to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers, noting that eligible information could attract a cash reward.
The arrest comes amid heightened attention on violent incidents involving foreign nationals in Canada, following recent high-profile cases currently under investigation.
