In a heartwarming story that defies age, distance, and expectation, 56-year-old Australian grandmother, Angela Peters, has welcomed twin daughters with her 39-year-old Nigerian husband, Bright, following a remarkable IVF journey that spanned continents.

Angela, a mother of five and grandmother to 12, began a new chapter in 2019 after ending a 20-year marriage. “Raising my kids was the joy of my life, but I knew I wasn’t truly happy,” she shared.

Her journey to love took an unexpected turn when she joined a dating site in March 2020. While she initially connected with a Nigerian man named Emeka, it was Emeka’s younger brother, Bright a cook living in South Africa, who captured her heart. “When I saw his photo, it felt like a thunderbolt. I knew instantly he was the one,” she recalled.

Despite a 17-year age difference and thousands of miles between them, their bond deepened. Angela flew to Nigeria in February 2021 to meet Bright in person. “It felt like I’d known him all my life,” she said. Just nine days later, the couple tied the knot in a small civil ceremony.

Angela’s children were initially skeptical, concerned Bright might be a scammer. But over time, his sincerity and commitment won them over.

Already experiencing perimenopause, Angela believed motherhood was behind her. Bright, however, expressed a strong desire for twin daughters a dream Angela embraced wholeheartedly. At one point, she even considered surrogacy or encouraging him to have a child with someone else. “Thankfully, fate had other plans,” she said.

During a 2023 visit to Nigeria, the couple discovered IVF clinics open to treating older women. Using donor eggs and Bright’s sperm, Angela underwent treatment and later, to their joy, a pregnancy test returned positive.

At their eight-week scan, the couple’s hopes were confirmed: they were expecting twins. A gender reveal party sealed the moment, with pink confetti announcing the arrival of baby girls.

Despite facing online criticism over her age, Angela dismissed the negativity. “It’s sexist. Men father children in their sixties or older, and no one questions it. I knew our daughters would be surrounded by love.”

Angela’s 28-year-old daughter, Deina, admitted she was stunned when her mother revealed her marriage and pregnancy plans. “I thought Bright might be a scammer at first. Then they asked me to be their surrogate! But Mum proved us all wrong she breezed through the pregnancy and is incredible with the girls.”

Now embracing life as a new mother once again, Angela hopes her story inspires others. “If you dream of motherhood later in life, don’t give up. My journey took me across borders, cultures, and doubts but it brought me here, and both my hands and heart are full.”
