A coalition of Nigerians living abroad has called on former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to consider returning to active politics ahead of the 2027 general elections, citing the country’s current challenges as a reason for renewed leadership direction.
The group, operating under the name “Goodluckans Diaspora,” said Nigeria is at a critical turning point that requires experienced and unifying leadership to address economic and social concerns.
Speaking during a gathering in Abuja, the group’s global coordinator, Queen Moses Idris, explained that the movement is focused on fostering dialogue and encouraging national development through peaceful engagement.
She described the initiative as a structured effort to promote unity, stability, and inclusive governance rather than a protest movement. According to her, members of the coalition are drawn from different regions of the world, including North America, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.
The group emphasized that its approach is rooted in persuasion and civic responsibility, urging Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora to support leadership capable of rebuilding trust in government institutions.
Idris added that the call for Jonathan’s return is based on his previous leadership experience and commitment to democratic values, which the group believes are essential in navigating Nigeria’s current realities.
She maintained that the appeal reflects a broader desire among Nigerians for leadership that can strengthen unity across ethnic and religious lines while promoting economic growth and national stability.
The coalition concluded that its campaign will remain peaceful, lawful, and focused on constructive engagement as it continues consultations on the country’s political future.
