Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, on Wednesday received a delegation of foreign ambassadors and senior United Nations officials in Maiduguri during a working visit focused on humanitarian conditions and development efforts in the state.

The delegation included envoys from India, Egypt, Indonesia, the Philippines, Turkey, Malaysia and Qatar. They were accompanied by the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mohamed Malick Fall, and the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Bernard Doro.

In the absence of the governor, Acting Governor Usman Kadafur led the visitors on an inspection tour of selected projects executed by the state government. The tour covered initiatives in education, healthcare and human capital development across parts of the state.

Speaking to journalists after the tour, Fall commended the Borno State Government for sustaining infrastructure development despite years of insecurity. He noted that the projects demonstrated ongoing efforts to improve living conditions beyond the state’s security challenges.

Fall highlighted education programmes, girl-child education initiatives, vocational training centres and malnutrition treatment facilities as key interventions aimed at addressing the humanitarian impact of conflict in the state.

According to him, the administration’s strong focus on education reflects an understanding that long-term stability requires tackling the root causes of crisis, particularly by investing in children and youth.

Also speaking, Doro expressed satisfaction with the level of development recorded in the state despite more than a decade of conflict, describing the investments in schools, vocational centres and social infrastructure as critical steps toward poverty reduction and recovery.
