Jamaica Establishes Consulate in Lagos to Support Diaspora and Deepen Economic Links

The Jamaican government has opened a new consulate in Lagos, Nigeria, marking a strategic move to strengthen diplomatic presence in West Africa and improve services for Jamaicans living in the region.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the Lagos consulate is designed to enhance engagement with the Jamaican diaspora while advancing Jamaica’s commercial, financial, and technology interests in one of Africa’s most influential cities.

The new office is headed by Aima Lijadu and operates under the supervision of the Jamaican High Commission in Abuja, ensuring coordination with the country’s broader diplomatic mission in Nigeria.

According to the ministry, the consulate will handle key services such as applications for Jamaican passports and citizenship, as well as visa processing for Nigerians and other foreign nationals based in Lagos.

Officials encouraged members of the Jamaican community in Lagos to make use of the services, noting that the consulate will also serve as a point of contact for strengthening cultural and economic ties between both countries.

The Lagos consulate will be open to the public on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., with enquiries accepted via phone and email.
