The Zamfara State Government, through the Zakkat and Endowment Board, has sponsored the mass wedding of 200 female orphans, widows, and less-privileged women as part of its 2025 social intervention programmes aimed at reducing poverty and supporting vulnerable households.

The event, held on Monday, also marked the conclusion of the board’s annual activities, which featured business grants, debt relief support, poultry production training, and computer literacy programmes targeted at strengthening economic stability for disadvantaged families.
Speaking at the ceremony, the First Lady of Zamfara State, Huriyya Dauda Lawal, said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of widows, orphans, and other vulnerable citizens while creating pathways to self-reliance.
She explained that her office provided essential household items to support the newly married couples, in addition to the interventions already delivered by the Zakkat and Endowment Board across the state.

The First Lady highlighted that the fourth quarter interventions included furniture, bedding, and a ₦200,000 dowry for each bride, along with business grants, debt settlement support, poultry starter packs, and computer literacy training for orphans.
“For the 4th quarter of 2025, the Zakat Board has successfully delivered a series of life-changing interventions, which include support for the marriage of 200 female orphans through essential household items such as furniture, bedding, and a ₦200,000 dowry,” she said. “Business grants, debt-related case settlements, poultry training, and computer literacy programmes have also been provided to empower widows, orphans, and other less privileged citizens.”
“These achievements symbolize the vision we share for a more empowered, self-reliant, and prosperous Zamfara State. To support these noble efforts, the office of the First Lady has also donated essential household items, further strengthening this intervention,” she added.
The Executive Secretary of the Zakkat and Endowment Board, Habib Balarabe, said the mass wedding and empowerment programmes were designed to reduce poverty and curb street begging by equipping vulnerable families with resources needed to build stable homes and sustainable livelihoods.
