Wike Hails Tinubu for Swift Assent to Electoral Act Amendment

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has commended President Bola Tinubu for promptly signing the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2026 into law, describing the move as a bold step toward strengthening Nigeria’s democratic process.

In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike praised the President for signing the bill within 24 hours of its passage by the National Assembly.
He described the President’s action as a demonstration of commitment to improving electoral credibility and deepening democratic governance. According to Wike, democracy is a continuous process that requires periodic reforms to remain effective and transparent.
The minister stated that reviewing and refining electoral laws is essential to addressing emerging challenges within Nigeria’s political landscape. He added that consistent improvements would help the country achieve more credible elections over time.

Wike congratulated both the President and members of the National Assembly for their roles in passing and signing the amendment, expressing confidence that the reforms would further fortify Nigeria’s democratic institutions ahead of future elections.
