Vice President Kashim Shettima departed Abuja on Friday to represent President Bola Tinubu at the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa.

President Tinubu had initially planned to travel for the summit but postponed his trip to await further security briefings following recent incidents in Kebbi and Kwara states.
The invitation was extended by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, who also serves as the current President of the G20 group. The summit is one of the most important international gatherings, bringing together leaders from the world’s top 20 economies, the European Union, the African Union, and key financial institutions.
The G20 Summit, scheduled from Saturday, November 22nd, to Sunday, November 23rd, at the Johannesburg Expo Centre, will feature discussions on global economic growth, sustainable development, climate change, and international security.

Vice President Shettima is expected to present Nigeria’s position on key economic and regional matters, explore investment opportunities, and strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic and trade relationships with other member countries.
“I am honoured to represent President Tinubu at the G20 Summit and will ensure that Nigeria’s interests are strongly and clearly communicated,” Shettima said.
“The summit provides an important platform to discuss economic cooperation, security, and sustainable development with global leaders, and I look forward to productive engagements that will benefit Nigeria and the region,” he added.
Vice President Shettima will return to Nigeria at the conclusion of the summit, bringing back insights and agreements that could advance the country’s economic and diplomatic priorities.
