Kebbi State is reeling from the violent raid on a boarding school in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area, which left the vice principal dead and dozens of students abducted. In a show of solidarity, the Vice President visited the state on Wednesday, conveying the President’s deep concern and offering condolences to the affected families.
Addressing the grief-stricken community, the Vice President emphasized that the tragedy transcends politics and regional divisions, calling for unity and collective resolve. “Our foremost priority is the safe return of every child taken. Their pain is the nation’s pain,” he said.
The Vice President assured that those responsible for the killings of the vice principal and Brigadier-General Musa Uba who lost his life fighting insurgents in Borno would face the full force of the law.
“The government will spare no effort in bringing the perpetrators to justice and ensuring our daughters are reunited with their families,” he added.
He commended local authorities, traditional leaders, community vigilantes, and civil society groups for their efforts in supporting rescue operations. “Your courage, vigilance, and sacrifices are the backbone of our national security. Nigeria values your commitment,” he stated.
Governor Mohammed Idris welcomed the federal delegation and expressed gratitude for the swift intervention. He assured that additional measures are being taken to bolster school security across the state and pledged continued cooperation with federal authorities.
The attack occurred on Monday, when armed assailants stormed the Maga boarding school, leaving a trail of fear and mourning. Authorities have intensified search-and-rescue efforts, with security agencies coordinating closely with local communities to locate the abducted students.
The Vice President concluded his visit by reiterating the government’s unwavering commitment to the safety of children and honoring the sacrifices of officers who died defending the nation. “Kebbi is not alone; Nigeria stands with you until every child is safely home,” he affirmed.
