The United States is set to complete a $537 million consulate complex in Eko Atlantic City, Lagos, by 2028. The facility, under construction since 2022, is expected to become the largest U.S. consulate in the world when completed.

The 10-storey building occupies about 12.2 acres and is designed as a modern diplomatic complex. The project is estimated to inject about $95 million into Nigeria’s local economy and provide employment for roughly 2,500 Nigerians across engineering, construction, architecture, and related fields.

Construction activity remains ongoing at the site, with visible structural work across multiple floors and supporting infrastructure such as access roads and bridges progressing simultaneously. The project was initially scheduled for completion in 2027 but has now been projected for occupancy in early 2028.

The development is advancing amid tighter U.S. immigration policies, including measures targeting undocumented migrants. Despite these policy shifts, the consulate project signals sustained diplomatic and economic engagement between the United States and Nigeria.

Upon completion, the Lagos consulate is expected to significantly expand U.S. diplomatic operations in West Africa and reinforce long-standing bilateral relations between both countries.
