Approximately 100 United States military personnel have arrived at Bauchi Airfield to provide advisory, training, and technical support to Nigeria’s armed forces as part of ongoing counterterrorism cooperation.

The Defence Headquarters confirmed that the deployment followed formal requests by the Federal Government of Nigeria and strategic consultations between Nigerian and US military delegations. The collaboration forms part of a broader bilateral security framework.

Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, clarified that the US personnel are non-combat technical specialists. Their mandate includes capacity building, intelligence coordination, and operational advisory services aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s counterinsurgency efforts.

Joint exercises will focus on intelligence sharing, counter-IED techniques, surveillance systems enhancement, and operational planning. Security analysts note that such cooperation could improve tactical efficiency in combating extremist groups.

Authorities reassured the public that all operations remain under Nigerian command authority. The partnership underscores deepening defence ties between Nigeria and the United States in the fight against terrorism.
