US-Based Nigerian Doctor Takes Own Life Over $15,000 Monthly Child Support

A devastating incident has shaken the Nigerian diaspora community in the United States. Dr. Ikenna Erinne, a 36-year-old cardiologist from Anambra State, Nigeria, allegedly took his own life on Sunday, January 26.

According to reports, Dr. Erinne had been embroiled in a prolonged and contentious divorce battle with his ex-wife, including a dispute over child custody. A US court ultimately ruled in favor of his ex-wife, ordering Dr. Erinne to pay $15,000 per month in child support.

Confirming the incident, Nigerian-American Clayton Udo took X to express his outrage and sadness over the tragic event. Udo, an expert in psychological and mental abuse, revealed that Dr. Erinne had spent thousands of dollars in legal fees before the court's verdict was handed down.

"The abuse of African men in the USA must come to an end," Udo wrote. "This tragic incident highlights the systemic issues within the legal system that disproportionately affect African men."

“He shot himself to death. He spent thousands of dollars in legal fees – wasted money. I am talking about a process that impoverishes you. You go to court and they take all your money.

They slammed on him 15,000 dollars a month plus restricted access to his children,” he added.

Dr. Erinne is survived by his children, Ugonna and Munachi, as well as his parents, Engr. Chris and Mrs. Chinwe Erinne, and siblings Chuks, Onyi, Kenny, and Gechi.

This heartbreaking incident has sparked widespread outrage and calls for reform within the US legal system.
