The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has called on the Federal Government to fast-track its renegotiation process. While the unions congratulated ASUU on their recent agreement, they warned that ignoring the non-academic sector could lead to industrial unrest.

In a joint statement signed by Prince Peters Adeyemi of NASU and Mohammed Ibrahim of SSANU, the unions expressed concern over what they termed the government’s "continued insensitivity." They argued that non-academic staff work under equally harsh conditions and deserve a swift conclusion to their own conditions-of-service negotiations.
The JAC reminded the government that both unions have been engaged in protracted talks over issues such as salary structures, earned allowances, and the general funding of university infrastructure. They noted that they have demonstrated significant restraint to maintain peace, but that this patience is not inexhaustible.
The statement warned that failure to act promptly following the ASUU agreement would be an "invitation to chaos" within the university system. The unions argued that for the academic calendar to remain stable, all sectors of university staff must be treated with equity and respect regarding their welfare.

As it stands, the non-academic unions are awaiting a formal invitation from the Federal Government to finalize their own agreements. They maintain that a comprehensive solution covering all university staff is the only way to ensure lasting industrial harmony and prevent future disruptions to students’ education.
