Ukraine has announced a new strategic push to involve its diaspora as key global ambassadors in efforts to restore damaged cultural heritage and strengthen international cultural ties.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Culture Tetiana Berezhna revealed the plan during a press briefing in Copenhagen, on the sidelines of an informal meeting of EU culture ministers. She described the diaspora as a “vital partner” in mobilising global support, especially as the country continues to deal with widespread cultural losses caused by the ongoing war.

Berezhna confirmed that two major initiatives are underway the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Fund and the Cultural Resilience Alliance  both designed to attract financial and professional backing from institutions, artists, and international donors.

She noted that millions of Ukrainians now living abroad are being encouraged to act as cultural ambassadors, raising awareness, connecting global partners, and helping to secure resources for heritage restoration.

According to Berezhna, the next phase will prioritise “international collaboration that combines funding, artistic expertise, and institutional partnerships,” stressing that cultural preservation is not only symbolic but a long-term national priority.

The government expects the diaspora-driven approach to help restore hundreds of affected sites, safeguard traditional practices, and ensure Ukrainian culture remains visible on the global stage.
