The United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia have joined forces to tackle visa fraud, launching an international awareness campaign aimed at protecting applicants from exploitation and safeguarding immigration systems. The initiative, titled the #FightingVisaFraud campaign, was unveiled during International Fraud Awareness Week to highlight the growing risks posed by fraudulent immigration facilitators.

Officials warned that visa fraud costs victims millions annually while exposing them to legal consequences, financial loss, and human trafficking risks. Criminal networks often lure applicants with promises of guaranteed visas, jobs without proper qualifications, and expedited processing, typically in exchange for exorbitant fees.

British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr Richard Montgomery, emphasized that the campaign demonstrates the three countries’ commitment to secure immigration and legitimate travel pathways. He cautioned that perpetrators face serious repercussions, including ten-year travel bans and criminal prosecution.

Canadian High Commissioner Pasquale Salvaggio noted that Canada is committed to cooperating with international partners to maintain fair, transparent immigration procedures while protecting applicants from exploitation. He highlighted the shared values underpinning the joint initiative and the focus on public education.

The campaign urges visa applicants to rely exclusively on official government sources and registered immigration advisers, warning against excessive fees, pressure tactics, and offers to bypass standard procedures. Authorities encourage reporting suspicious activity to prevent victimization.

Each participating country is managing its own implementation, providing guidance on identifying and avoiding visa fraud through official channels and social media. The campaign underscores the necessity of vigilance, proper verification, and adherence to lawful application processes.

Applicants are advised to consult their respective country’s official immigration resources for accurate guidance. The joint effort reflects a coordinated commitment to uphold the integrity of international immigration systems.
