Maryland police have arrested Nigerian-American couple and Real Housewives of Potomac stars, Wendy Osefo and her husband, Edward “Eddie” Osefo, on multiple counts of insurance fraud, conspiracy, and making false statements to law enforcement.
The pair, both well-known public figures, were taken into custody on October 9, 2025, following months of investigation by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office into what authorities describe as a “fabricated burglary scheme” involving luxury items valued at over $200,000.
According to court documents, the Osefos had filed an insurance claim alleging that 80 items, including jewelry, designer clothing, and high-end accessories, were stolen from their Maryland home in April 2024 while the couple was on vacation in Jamaica.
However, detectives discovered inconsistencies in the couple’s story after finding that several items listed as stolen had been returned to stores for refunds prior to the reported burglary, with more than $20,000 worth of merchandise confirmed as having been repurchased or refunded.
“The evidence clearly suggests that the burglary never occurred and that the couple intentionally filed a false report to defraud their insurance company.”
Authorities said a search warrant executed at the couple’s residence led to the recovery of 15 of the claimed stolen items, while duplicate insurance filings were found across multiple providers.
Wendy Osefo faces 16 charges, including seven felony counts, while her husband, Edward, faces similar counts, nine of which are classified as felonies. Both were released on $50,000 bond each and are expected to appear in court later this year.
In a statement issued through their legal representatives, the couple described the allegations as “misleading and unfounded,” insisting that they “look forward to clearing their names in court.”
Investigators also found physical and digital evidence contradicting the Osefos’ claims. Their home’s ADT security system recorded no motion during the period of the alleged break-in, and there were no signs of forced entry or disturbance around the property.
In a further twist, one of the supposedly stolen diamond rings later appeared in a social media post worn by Mrs Osefo, raising additional suspicion about the validity of the claim.
Legal experts say the case could have serious professional and reputational implications for Mrs Osefo, a university professor and reality TV personality, as the investigation continues.
The Carroll County State’s Attorney’s Office confirmed that the case remains open, with prosecutors preparing to present additional digital evidence in the coming weeks.
