INTRODUCTION
Good evening Lagos.Good evening Nigeria.Good evening to our global diaspora listening around the world.
Welcome to Insights with Jermaine on Lagos Traffic Radio 96.1 FM, your trusted source for what is happening in Lagos, the Centre of Excellence and City of Aquatic Splendour, our very own Eko.
Today is a special day simply because you are alive, you are here, and there is hope. Things can always get better, and this show exists to give you information, direction, and opportunity.
I am Jermaine Sanwo-Olu, Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Office of Diaspora Affairs, and my responsibility is to connect Lagosians and the diaspora with the opportunities happening right here in Lagos.
Lagos, led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, remains one of Africa’s safest, most dynamic and most economically powerful cities. It has the second-largest GDP in sub-Saharan Africa and is the startup capital of the continent. Lagos has its challenges, but it is also a city of opportunity, resilience, and global relevance.
At the federal level, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu continues to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture. At the state level, Lagos continues to invest heavily in safety, law enforcement, and public order. One of the key institutions driving this work is the Lagos State Law Enforcement Training Institute, and that is what we are focusing on today.
You can send your messages to the studio on 0809 912 0777 or to the Lagos Diaspora Helpline on 0916 626 2626. We welcome your feedback from Lagos, from the United Kingdom, Europe, the United States, and beyond.
INTRODUCING THE GUEST
Today’s special guest is a woman doing vital work for the safety and professionalism of Lagos. She is the Director General of the Lagos State Law Enforcement Training Institute, Mrs. Abiola Adeyinka, also known as Oluwoye.
WHAT LETI DOES
Mrs. Adeyinka explained that LETI is responsible for training all Lagos State law-enforcement officers. This includes LASTMA, KAI, the Neighbourhood Safety Corps, LASWA, LASPA, and other enforcement agencies across the state. LETI sets the standards for professionalism, discipline, and ethics. Officers are trained in human rights, communication, community relations, and operational competence so that they serve Lagosians better.
WHY THIS MATTERS
LETI is not just about uniforms and enforcement. It is about building trust between the people and the state. Neighbourhood Safety Corps officers, LASTMA officials, and other enforcement agencies work together to keep communities safe, manage traffic, gather intelligence, and respond to emergencies. This collaboration is one of the key reasons Lagos remains one of the safest major cities in Africa.
PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT
During the programme, listeners shared their views about law-enforcement officers, and questions were raised about emotional intelligence and professionalism. Mrs. Adeyinka explained that officers are trained to be courteous, respectful, and community-focused. Where complaints arise, officers are disciplined and retrained. No system is perfect, but Lagos continues to improve through continuous training and oversight.
TRAINING MILESTONE
In 2024 alone, over 5,000 officers were trained. In the most recent batch, more than 2,000 officers completed training. Since the creation of LETI, almost 14,000 officers have passed through its programmes.
A passing-out parade will take place on Friday, 16 January, at 10:00 a.m., to celebrate the latest graduating officers.
CALL TO LAGOSIANS AND THE DIASPORA
LETI welcomes collaboration and partnership from professionals in communication, ethics, emotional intelligence, community relations, and law-enforcement best practices. Lagos belongs to all of us, both at home and in the diaspora.

We have been speaking with Mrs. Abiola Adeyinka, Director General of the Lagos State Law Enforcement Training Institute. We thank her for her leadership and service.
