President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has put forward the name of Taiwo Oyedele for appointment as Minister of State for Finance, subject to confirmation by the Senate. The nomination was formally transmitted to Senate President Godswill Akpabio for legislative consideration.

Oyedele’s nomination comes alongside a cabinet reshuffle that sees Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite redeployed to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State. The move marks her third assignment within the current administration.

Before his nomination, Oyedele chaired the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, where he led efforts aimed at restructuring Nigeria’s tax framework and improving revenue generation mechanisms.

The 50-year-old economist and accountant hails from Ikaram in Akoko, Ondo State. He holds a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy and Finance from Yaba College of Technology and later obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.

He has also completed executive training programmes at leading global institutions, including the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science, and the Harvard Kennedy School.

Oyedele spent over two decades at PwC, joining the firm in 2001 and rising to the position of Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader, where he played a key role in shaping tax advisory and policy initiatives across the continent.

In academia, he serves as a professor at Babcock University and is also a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School, contributing to research and policy discourse in public finance and economic reform.

If confirmed by the Senate, Oyedele is expected to bring his extensive experience in fiscal policy and taxation to the finance ministry at a time when the federal government continues efforts to strengthen revenue mobilisation and economic stability.
