President Bola Tinubu on Monday held a closed-door meeting with the newly appointed service chiefs at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s security framework.
The session, which lasted about 40 minutes, marked the first official engagement between the President and the new military leadership since their appointment on October 24, 2025.
The officers in attendance included Chief of Defence Staff, Lt-Gen Olufemi Oluyede; Chief of Army Staff, Maj-Gen W. Shaibu; Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral I. Abbas; Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke; and Chief of Defence Intelligence, Maj-Gen E.A.P. Undiendeye.
During the meeting, President Tinubu charged the new service chiefs to justify the confidence reposed in them by intensifying the fight against terrorism, banditry, and oil theft while maintaining discipline and professionalism across all military formations.
He also emphasized collaboration among the services, noting that effective synergy remains vital for protecting Nigeria’s sovereignty and ensuring peace in volatile regions.
The President expressed appreciation to the outgoing Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and other retired service chiefs for their service to the nation.
Tinubu’s latest appointments reflect his administration’s resolve to overhaul the national security architecture and inject fresh leadership into the armed forces.
The new service chiefs are expected to assume full operational command immediately and present a comprehensive security roadmap to the President in the coming weeks
