President Bola Tinubu on Sunday departed Lagos for Europe as part of his end-of-year break, ahead of his official participation in the 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week Summit in the United Arab Emirates, a major global forum focused on advancing conversations around sustainable development, climate action and inclusive economic growth.

The President is scheduled to attend the summit at the invitation of the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, with the event expected to take place in early January and attract leaders from government, business and civil society from across the world.

According to a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week Summit serves as a strategic platform for shaping global dialogue on sustainability and fostering partnerships that drive long-term development.

The 2026 edition of the summit will be held under the theme, “The Nexus of Next: All Systems Go,” and will focus on connecting innovation, finance and people as critical drivers for achieving sustainable growth and resilience across nations.

The statement further noted that President Tinubu’s engagement at the summit aligns with Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainable development, energy transition and economic reforms, while strengthening diplomatic and strategic relations with key global partners.

“The President is expected to participate in high-level discussions with global leaders on sustainable development initiatives and Nigeria’s role in advancing inclusive growth, innovation and climate-conscious policies on the international stage,” the statement said.
“He will also leverage the summit to engage stakeholders from the public and private sectors with a view to attracting investments and partnerships that support Nigeria’s development priorities,” it added.

President Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria after the conclusion of the summit, having earlier arrived in Lagos to spend the end-of-year holidays following official visits to Borno and Bauchi states, where he was received by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, government officials and leaders of the All Progressives Congress at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
