President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on Nigerians to continue showing unwavering support and encouragement to the men and women of the nation’s armed forces who risk their lives daily to ensure the safety and stability of the country.

The president made the appeal on Wednesday while addressing participants at the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) Conference held in Abuja, where he highlighted the need for citizens to recognise and appreciate the sacrifices of military officers and security agencies.

Tinubu emphasised that the Nigerian military, alongside other security formations, had continued to make tremendous sacrifices to protect the nation from internal and external threats despite facing numerous operational challenges.

He noted that the selfless dedication of these officers remained a key pillar of national unity and peace, stressing that their efforts in combating insecurity deserved the collective respect, motivation, and support of all Nigerians.

The president said it was time Nigerians reflected deeply on the crucial role played by the military in maintaining national security and sovereignty, urging citizens to remain appreciative and supportive of their ongoing efforts.

“Yes, we are challenged by terrorism, banditry, and others. We recognise that,” Tinubu said. “Are we doing something about it? Are we inspiring the armed forces? Are we encouraging them to fight?”
“They put their lives on the line to defend the sovereignty of this country. It is our responsibility,” the president added, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to boosting morale and improving welfare for members of the armed forces.

Tinubu reiterated that his government would continue to prioritise the needs of the military through enhanced training, better equipment, and improved welfare, while also urging Nigerians to see the armed forces not just as defenders of the state, but as national heroes who embody sacrifice, courage, and patriotism.
