The Nigerian government has released its budget plans for 2026, showing how much will be spent on the Presidency. President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima are expected to spend about N9.3 billion on travels, food, and refreshments.

According to the Budget Office, the President’s foreign trips alone will cost over N6.1 billion, while his local travels are set at N873 million. The Vice President also has over N1.7 billion allocated for his own travels and meals.
The total national budget for 2026 is N58.18 trillion. The President explained that this money would focus on security, which he says is the foundation for a stable economy and growth for all Nigerians.
Apart from travels, the budget includes money for other things. For example, N895 million is for library books, and N179 million is for buying new vehicles. There is also money set aside for office furniture and medical equipment.

The Senate has already started looking at this budget to decide if the spending is fair. This "legislative scrutiny" is a normal part of the process before the budget becomes law and the money is released.
