A 21-year-old Nigerian student, identified as Louis Junior, has been arrested in Thailand following an alleged attempt to sell cocaine to undercover police officers in Bangkok.
Authorities said the arrest occurred during a coordinated crackdown targeting suspected foreign drug traffickers. Investigators reportedly acted on intelligence about illicit activities involving non-Thai nationals operating within the city
According to officials, the suspect arranged to meet with an undercover officer posing as a buyer to deliver approximately 40 grams of cocaine, valued at about 100,000 baht. However, during the encounter, the suspect allegedly became suspicious and fled the scene, scaling a fence before escaping.
Police later tracked him down roughly two hours after the failed exchange, finding him hiding in a nearby area. Upon arrest, officers said no drugs were recovered, raising suspicions that the substance may have been discarded while he was on the run.
Further investigations revealed that the suspect had overstayed his visa. Reports indicate he entered Thailand in April 2025 on a student permit, which expired in October 2025, but remained in the country without valid documentation.
He has since been handed over to immigration authorities and is facing charges related to visa violations, while investigations continue into the alleged drug transaction and any possible network connections.
The arrest comes amid a broader pattern of recent cases involving Nigerian nationals in Thailand linked to criminal allegations, including fraud and narcotics-related offences.
The development has also triggered renewed debate online about the activities of some Nigerians abroad, with mixed reactions emerging across social media platforms.
