Team Nigeria Diaspora has secured an official invitation to compete at the 2026 London Youth Games, marking a major milestone for Nigerian athletes living abroad.

The team will participate in the netball event scheduled for June 13 and the athletics competition on June 21 during the multi-sport tournament, which runs from April to July across London.

The invitation was confirmed by the Nigeria Diaspora Talents Development Committee, whose officials described the development as a significant breakthrough for the country’s efforts to engage young Nigerian athletes in the diaspora.

According to him, the opportunity goes beyond talent discovery, as it also creates an avenue for athletes to compete together under a Nigerian identity while remaining connected to their roots.

He noted that the London Youth Games would help the committee assess emerging prospects capable of representing Nigeria in future international competitions.

Dr. Adelakun also praised the National Sports Commission for supporting the diaspora talent initiative, describing it as a strategic move aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s long-term sporting future.

The London Youth Games is one of Europe’s largest youth sporting events, bringing together thousands of young athletes from different communities and backgrounds across the United Kingdom.
