A former member of the Osun State House of Assembly, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has raised an alarm over the growing wave of misinformation surrounding Nigeria’s new tax laws. Representing the Obokun State Constituency, the APC chieftain expressed concern that false narratives are currently overshadowing the Federal Government’s genuine intentions. He noted that without clear information, the public remains skeptical of reforms designed to improve the nation's fiscal health.

Oyintiloye made these remarks in a statement released in Osogbo on Sunday, where he observed that the lack of proper understanding has led to widespread suspicion. He argued that the "good intentions" of the government, particularly those aimed at easing the burden on low-income earners, are being lost in the noise of misrepresentation. According to him, the current climate of doubt is a direct result of an information gap that must be bridged immediately.
To counter this trend, the former lawmaker called on the National Orientation Agency (NOA) and the Federal Ministry of Information to step up their efforts. He urged these bodies to launch massive and sustained public awareness campaigns to educate Nigerians on the specifics of the tax reform. He emphasized that many citizens are still unaware of how the law applies to them or the benefits it holds for the broader economy.
In addition to addressing tax concerns, Oyintiloye maintained that the economic reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu are already yielding positive results. He stressed that it is the responsibility of government agencies to package and communicate these successes effectively to the Nigerian people. By doing so, he believes the government can build the necessary trust to carry out its developmental agenda without unnecessary friction.

Despite rumors of "heavy taxes" and allegations of irregularities in the bill, the Federal Government has continued with the implementation process. Oyintiloye’s appeal serves as a reminder that transparency and active communication are vital for the success of any policy. He remains optimistic that with better sensitization, Nigerians will eventually embrace the reforms as a pathway to sustainable economic growth.
