President Bola Tinubu has pledged that the establishment of state police will not be postponed, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to tackling insecurity through decentralised policing reforms.

The President made the declaration during an interfaith breaking of fast held at the Presidential Banquet Hall in Abuja to mark the first Iftar of the 2026 Ramadan season. Addressing governors and senior government officials, Tinubu assured Nigerians that the plan to institutionalise state policing remains firmly on course.
“What I promise you will not be postponed. We will establish state police to combat insecurity,” the President stated, emphasizing the urgency of strengthening security architecture nationwide. The move is widely viewed as a significant shift in Nigeria’s approach to internal security management.
Tinubu also expressed optimism about the country’s economic direction, declaring that Nigeria had moved beyond a period of uncertainty. “We are out of the woods. We are out of the dark tunnel of uncertainty. The economy is showing up,” he said, signaling confidence in ongoing economic reforms.

In a related appeal, the President urged Abba Kabir Yusuf to exercise restraint amid political tensions in Kano State. He also encouraged governors under the ruling All Progressives Congress to embrace inclusivity, particularly by creating opportunities for young party members.
