Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has empowered 1,000 Lagos residents with ₦460 million under the Eko Cares Financial Assistance Programme aimed at alleviating economic hardship and promoting self-reliance.
The cheques, ranging from ₦300,000 to ₦1.5 million, were presented on Wednesday at an event held in Agidingbi, Lagos, organised by the Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement. Beneficiaries included small business owners, students, persons with disabilities, and individuals in need of healthcare or rent support.
Represented by his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, Sanwo-Olu said the initiative underscores the essence of governance — to bring comfort, hope, and opportunity to citizens. He urged beneficiaries to use the financial support responsibly, describing it as “a seed of hope” that could ignite new beginnings.
He linked the initiative to President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that it aligns with efforts to create inclusion, stability, and dignity for Nigerians.
Special Adviser on Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, Dr. Afolabi Tajudeen, said the Eko Cares programme, which began in 2020, reflects the state’s enduring commitment to compassion, equity, and empowerment.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the state government, pledging to invest the funds wisely in their businesses and personal development.
The Eko Cares initiative provides financial aid for healthcare, education, housing, and entrepreneurship to support Lagosians in need and promote a more inclusive economy.
