A member of the House of Representatives, Adesola Ayoola-Elegbeji, has argued that Sagamu should be designated as the capital of the proposed Remo-Ijebu State, citing population strength, infrastructure development, and strategic location as key factors.

The lawmaker said Sagamu has grown into a major commercial and industrial hub, with well-developed road networks, factories, and urban infrastructure that make it suitable to serve as a state capital.
She also raised concerns about environmental pollution in Ogijo, a community in Sagamu Local Government Area, following reports of lead poisoning linked to industrial activities. According to her, investigations revealed gaps in existing industrial regulations.
Ayoola-Elegbeji said the House of Representatives is committed to reviewing Nigeria’s outdated Factory Act, which she described as weak and incapable of addressing modern environmental and workplace safety challenges.

She stressed that updating the law would protect factory workers, host communities, and the environment while supporting sustainable industrial growth.
