President William Ruto has assured the Kenyan diaspora in the United Kingdom that his administration remains committed to delivering national progress, despite rising concerns over early politicking ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during a Diaspora Townhall meeting in London on Wednesday, Ruto addressed questions on whether the premature campaign activities were undermining service delivery.

“You're right to raise this,” Ruto acknowledged. “Elections are a one-day affair. We have a country to build, and that must be our collective focus.”

He described Kenya as “a work in progress” that demands consistent attention and development, urging political actors to prioritize governance over politics.

President Ruto also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to safeguarding Kenyans working abroad. He vowed to put an end to the practice of citizens travelling on student or tourist visas to seek employment in foreign countries a situation that has often left them vulnerable to exploitation.

“No Kenyan should go abroad to work using a tourist or student visa,” he said. “We want a proper system in place so we can track and assist our citizens, especially when they face distress or undignified working conditions.”

While in the UK, Ruto held strategic talks with the Tony Blair Institute to explore areas of cooperation, including development programs and investment opportunities.

He also used the platform to reiterate Kenya’s drive towards green manufacturing and clean energy. Emphasizing the nation’s natural advantage, Ruto said Kenya is positioning itself as a hub for low-carbon products.

“With our green energy potential, we can process goods and export sustainable products. This is a global competitive edge we must harness,” he added.

President Ruto’s visit forms part of broader efforts to engage the diaspora and build international partnerships to support Kenya’s economic and environmental goals.
