The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has suspended its planned nationwide strike, which was scheduled to resume on Monday, following fresh commitments from the Federal Government.

The decision was taken during an emergency virtual meeting of the association’s National Executive Council held on January 11, 2026, to review progress on unresolved demands.

NARD said the suspension is conditional and will be reviewed at its next NEC meeting scheduled for January 25, 2026, depending on how well government promises are implemented.

The association acknowledged the involvement of several government agencies, including the Ministries of Health, Labour, Finance, and the Budget Office, as well as the intervention of Vice President Kashim Shettima on behalf of President Bola Tinubu.

According to NARD, some progress has already been made, including steps to resolve the Federal Teaching Hospital Lokoja crisis, giving hope for improved industrial harmony in the health sector.
