The House of Representatives has summoned the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) to provide explanations regarding the implementation of renewable energy projects across Nigeria. Lawmakers raised concerns over reports of delays, alleged irregularities, and slow project delivery in rural communities, highlighting the need for accountability and transparency in energy sector operations.

During the summon, members of the committee stressed that renewable energy initiatives are critical for addressing electricity deficits and promoting sustainable development in rural areas. They called on the agency to provide detailed reports on project execution, financial management, and timelines.

Energy experts have noted that effective implementation of renewable projects is essential for bridging Nigeria’s electricity gap. They emphasize that clean energy projects are not only environmentally sustainable but also economically strategic, contributing to job creation and improved quality of life for underserved communities.

The committee pledged to maintain strict oversight of REA’s activities, ensuring that public funds are optimally utilized and that projects deliver tangible benefits to citizens. Members reiterated that government agencies must uphold high standards of transparency and accountability in all energy initiatives.

REA officials reportedly assured the lawmakers of their cooperation, promising prompt and detailed responses to the issues raised. The engagement is expected to enhance project delivery, strengthen institutional accountability, and ensure that renewable energy development aligns with national priorities.
