The House of Representatives Committee on Anti-Corruption has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing legislative measures that will strengthen Nigerian youths and enhance their role in national development.

Chairman of the Committee, Moshood Akiolu, made the pledge on Wednesday at an event commemorating the 2025 International Anti-Corruption Day in Abuja, stressing the need for stronger institutions and improved civic engagement.

Akiolu said the 10th House, under Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, is intensifying reforms that promote transparency, reinforce legal frameworks, and equip young Nigerians with the knowledge to identify, resist, and report corrupt practices.

He noted that corruption remains a major obstacle to building a stable democratic culture, undermining trust in public institutions and weakening the nation’s development potential.

Also speaking, Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Musa Aliyu, said corruption continues to erode social justice and divert resources away from essential services, disproportionately affecting young people across the country.

“The House is working to enhance transparency, strengthen legal frameworks, and support civic education that equips young people with the knowledge and tools to resist and report corruption,” he said.
“Corruption remains one of the greatest threats to development and social justice. It erodes public trust, diverts resources from essential services and undermines opportunities for young people,” Aliyu added.

Speakers at the event emphasised that Nigeria’s huge youth population still faces structural barriers including unemployment, inadequate skills training, and limited representation in governance calling for stronger accountability mechanisms to ensure that empowerment and anti-corruption promises translate into real opportunities.
