Qatar Airways Flight A7-BCL was forced to make an emergency landing at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Friday evening after the crew reported a fault in the aircraft’s oxygen system. The pilots declared an emergency shortly after the issue was detected, prompting immediate action from airport authorities and emergency response teams.
The aircraft, which was in the air when the fault occurred, was guided to the runway and touched down safely at 6:31 pm. Airport officials confirmed that the emergency protocol was activated without delay, ensuring the safety of all passengers and crew members on board.
Following the landing, the aircraft was directed to a designated bay where passengers were disembarked. Technical personnel from the airline conducted a thorough inspection of the oxygen system to determine the cause of the fault and assess any further risks.
Emergency teams, including fire services, medical units, and security personnel, were mobilised to provide support during the operation. Additional assistance came from state emergency services, ensuring that both technical and medical contingencies were in place.
Airport authorities said the passengers were safely evacuated and received immediate support from airline staff. No injuries were reported, and all passengers were accounted for following the incident.
The aircraft has been grounded for further technical evaluation and is expected to remain out of service until the issue is fully resolved. Authorities reiterated that aviation safety protocols were followed, and the swift response helped prevent a potential crisis.
