President Bola Tinubu has taken steps to restore peace in Plateau State by deploying Senior Special Assistant on Community Engagement for the North Central Zone, Abiodun Essiet. Her mission focused on promoting ethnic reconciliation and coexistence.

During her two-day visit, Essiet engaged key local stakeholders, including Christian clerics and Fulani Miyetti Allah leaders. The visit culminated in a town hall in Jos, with delegates from all 17 local government areas, traditional rulers, and women and youth leaders.
In Barkin Ladi, Essiet met with Reverend Ezekiel Dachomo, Chairman of the Regional Church Council, urging faith leaders to play a pivotal role in peace-building.
She also held dialogue sessions with Fulani leaders to strengthen mutual understanding between pastoralists and farmers. A key achievement was resolving a farm dispute between David Toma, a Jos South farmer, and herdsmen, including a N500,000 compensation and peaceful release of seized cattle.

Essiet also engaged the Irigwe community, Miyetti Allah, and the Youth Council in Bassa LGA, supporting the creation of a 17-member committee for reconciliation and dialogue.
“President Tinubu is unwavering in his commitment to peace and inclusive governance. The community-based peace structure is a crucial tool to foster grassroots unity and ensure long-term stability in the North Central region,” Essiet said. “Our faith leaders are pivotal in promoting peace, unity and social development.”
“This agreement demonstrates the power of dialogue and the shared desire for peaceful coexistence in Plateau State,” said Alhaji Isah Yau, MACBAN chairman in Bassa LGA, highlighting the impact of local conflict resolution.
Essiet concluded by reiterating the Federal Government’s dedication to ongoing inclusive engagement and urging communities to maintain open communication and cooperation for lasting peace.
