President Tinubu Sends Gbajabiamila to Lead Federal Government Delegation to Canada for Inaugural NIDEC 2026

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a high-powered Federal Government delegation, led by his Chief of Staff, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, to represent Nigeria at the inaugural Nigeria Diaspora Investment Economic Conference (NIDEC) 2026, scheduled to take place in Toronto, Canada, from August 12 to 15.
The conference, themed "Invest Nigeria, Thrive Abroad," is designed to strengthen investment ties between Nigeria and Canada while creating new opportunities for diaspora-driven economic partnerships. It is expected to bring together government officials, investors, business leaders, and members of the Nigerian diaspora to explore investment opportunities across key sectors of the Nigerian economy.
According to a statement issued by the Head of Media, Public Relations and Protocols of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the Chairman/CEO of the Commission, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, said the calibre of the Nigerian delegation reflects President Tinubu's commitment to deepening trade, investment, and economic cooperation between both countries.
The Nigerian delegation includes the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu; the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole; the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; and the governors of Anambra, Borno, Kaduna, Plateau, and Zamfara States—Prof. Charles Soludo, Prof. Babagana Zulum, Senator Uba Sani, Caleb Mutfwang, and Dauda Lawal, respectively.
Also joining the delegation are Senator Ita Enang, the Nigerian Ambassador to Germany, representatives of the Nigeria Customs Service, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC), Aisha Rimi, Executive Director of the Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC), Nonye Ayeni, and Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi..
On the Canadian side, senior government officials expected at the conference include the President of the Treasury Board of Canada, Hon. Shafqat Ali; Ontario's Minister of Citizenship and Multiculturalism, Hon. Graham McGregor; Member of the Ontario Provincial Parliament for Mississauga–Malton, Hon. Deepak Anand; the Mayor of Brampton, Patrick Brown; Brampton City Councillor Rod Power; and Ontario's Minister of Women and Economic Opportunities, Hon. Charmaine Williams, among other dignitaries.
The conference is being organised by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission in collaboration with the Nigerian High Commission in Ottawa, the Canadian High Commission in Abuja, and several national and international partners. Organisers say the event will serve as a strategic bridge linking global investors, policymakers, and the Nigerian diaspora with investment opportunities across high-impact sectors that are critical to the country's long-term economic development.
