President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reportedly removed Kayode Egbetokun from office as the Inspector-General of Police. The development was confirmed on Tuesday by senior presidential aides who spoke on condition of anonymity, pending an official announcement from the Presidency.

According to sources within the Presidential Villa, Abuja, the decision was communicated to Egbetokun during a closed-door meeting with the President on Monday. One aide simply stated, “Yes, Egbetokun is gone,” while another disclosed that a formal statement was being prepared for public release.
Though details surrounding the removal remain unclear, the move marks a significant shift in Nigeria’s security leadership at a time of ongoing national security concerns. Observers say the decision could signal a broader restructuring within the Nigeria Police Force.
Efforts to obtain confirmation from the Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, were unsuccessful as calls and messages went unanswered. Similarly, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, did not respond to inquiries as of press time.

As Nigerians await an official statement, attention is now focused on who will be appointed as the next Inspector-General of Police and what direction the administration intends to take regarding security reforms.
