President Bola Tinubu has received the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja in what marked the monarch’s first official visit since ascending the throne.

The meeting, held on Friday, came less than four months after Oba Ladoja’s formal installation as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland in September 2025. It also followed closely after a courtesy visit to the President by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.

Although details of the discussions were not made public, the visit underscored ongoing engagement between the federal government and traditional institutions, particularly in matters of national unity, governance, and cultural heritage.

Before becoming Olubadan, Oba Ladoja served as Governor of Oyo State between May 2003 and January 2006 under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, giving him a unique blend of political and traditional leadership experience.

His emergence followed Ibadan’s rotational chieftaincy system, which alternates between the civil and military ruling lines. Governor Makinde formally approved his appointment in September 2025, completing the traditional succession process.
