President Bola Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s commitment to implementing comprehensive livestock and ranching reforms aimed at ending recurring farmer-herder conflicts and boosting Nigeria’s agricultural economy.

The President made the remarks on Monday while declaring open a two-day National Economic Council (NEC) conference at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja. He expressed confidence that the meeting would produce actionable resolutions on ranching, livestock investment, and agricultural diversification.

Tinubu linked the urgency of livestock sector reform to national security concerns, describing banditry and terrorism as economic disruptions that require sustainable, long-term solutions. He pledged to personally ensure the delivery of agreed reforms.

The President recalled his earlier directive issued on December 10, 2025, instructing Vice President Kashim Shettima, who chairs the NEC, to develop a roadmap for transforming the livestock industry through modern ranching systems.

He also directed the Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Muktar Maiha, to identify grazing areas and communities suitable for rehabilitation into modern ranches, stressing that resolving conflict and making livestock production economically viable must go hand in hand.
