President Bola Tinubu has received a high-level United States military delegation at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security cooperation and counterterrorism operations in West Africa.

The delegation was led by the Commander of the United States Africa Command (USAFRICOM), General Dagvin R. Anderson, and included senior members of his team as well as the Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria, Keith Heffern. The meeting took place at the State House on Sunday.

President Tinubu was joined by the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, alongside Nigeria’s service chiefs. Discussions focused on deepening bilateral military collaboration, intelligence sharing, and addressing the growing threat of terrorism across the West African sub-region.

Speaking after the meeting, General Anderson said the engagement reflected increased cooperation between both countries in response to evolving security challenges. He disclosed that a small U.S. team with specialized capabilities had been deployed to support Nigeria’s counterterrorism efforts, though he declined to provide operational details.

The visit comes amid heightened regional security concerns, with the United States previously conducting surveillance flights over Nigeria from neighbouring Ghana since November 2025. The intelligence support reportedly preceded coordinated counterterrorism strikes carried out in December.
