The Oyo State Government has intensified its clampdown on unauthorised private estate developers, launching a fresh enforcement operation to curb illegal land development across the state.

The enforcement exercise, led by the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, took place along the Akinyele–Iseyin axis following rising cases of unapproved site clearing and construction activities by developers.

Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Williams Akin-Funmilayo, said the surge in unregulated estate development poses serious risks to orderly urban growth, environmental safety and the implementation of the state’s physical development plans.

He noted that many of the developers under scrutiny were unknown to the government, lacked proper registration, and had become subjects of public complaints over fraudulent land transactions.

The commissioner explained that the task force intervention became necessary to protect citizens, restore sanity in the property sector and prevent an escalation of land-related disputes.

“This unauthorised development poses risks to orderly urban growth, environmental safety and the implementation of our physical planning policies,” he said.
“These developers are not registered with the government and have no traceable addresses, yet complaints of illegal transactions keep rising. Their activities must be regulated in the public interest,” he added.

Akin-Funmilayo advised all private estate developers to regularise their planning and title documents within three days of receiving contravention notices or risk full enforcement under the state’s Town and Country Planning Laws. He urged affected developers to liaise with the ministry for further guidance and compliance procedures.
