Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has assured residents that those responsible for the killing of five forest guards will face justice. The attack took place at the National Park Office in Oloka Village and has heightened concerns over security along the state’s borders.

In a statement on social media, the governor condemned the incident, describing it as a “tragic loss of personnel who were carrying out their lawful duties.” He extended his condolences to the families of the fallen officers.

Makinde explained that preliminary investigations suggest the attack was a cross-border operation carried out by armed bandits. He appealed to residents to remain calm as security agencies continue their inquiries.

The governor confirmed that additional security forces have been deployed to the affected areas to restore order and prevent further incidents. He also called on the public to assist law enforcement with any intelligence that could help in capturing the perpetrators.

The Oyo State Police Command stated that the attackers, numbering about twelve, emerged from nearby bushes, fired sporadically at the rangers’ office, and escaped. Authorities emphasized that the assault was targeted solely at the forest rangers’ office.

Police teams have since secured the scene, conducted forensic sweeps, and collected evidence to aid in the investigation. The remains of the deceased officers have been properly handled and deposited for burial.

Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, assured that all necessary measures are being taken to apprehend the suspects swiftly and bring them to justice. He reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.

Governor Makinde concluded by vowing that the state government would respond decisively to prevent the recurrence of such attacks, emphasizing that no stone would be left unturned in safeguarding residents and frontline personnel.
