The Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), widely known as the Shi’ite movement, has dismissed allegations that it plans to attack American citizens or institutions in the country, describing the claims as unfounded.
The group stated that its activities remain peaceful and within the bounds of the law, stressing that it has no history of carrying out violent attacks.
Addressing journalists in Abuja, the head of the IMN Resource Forum, Prof. Abdullah Danladi, said the movement has consistently promoted peaceful religious activities since its establishment decades ago.
He explained that the organisation has scheduled its annual International Quds Day procession for Friday, March 14, adding that members would gather to express solidarity with Palestinians and raise awareness about their cause.
Danladi noted that participants in the procession would move through designated routes, carrying placards and engaging in public enlightenment on issues surrounding Palestine.
He insisted that the movement does not encourage violence and would conduct the event in a peaceful manner, as it has done in previous years.
The IMN leader also questioned why security concerns allegedly linked to the procession were made public instead of being reported directly to Nigerian security agencies for investigation.
He assured residents of the Federal Capital Territory that the procession would remain orderly and peaceful, provided that security forces do not disrupt the gathering.
