Only President Tinubu Can Sack Me, Wike Declares

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has insisted that no individual or political group has the authority to remove him from office except President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Wike made the declaration amid growing political tension in Rivers State, dismissing calls by critics who have demanded his removal from the federal cabinet.

The former Rivers State governor spoke on Sunday during a thank-you visit to Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, where he addressed party leaders, traditional rulers, women groups, and youths. He said political power is not accidental but earned through influence, strength, and strategic grassroots mobilisation.

Wike emphasised that Obio/Akpor remains a decisive political force in Rivers State, noting that no governor, senator, or major political office holder has emerged in the state without the support of the area. He warned political opponents against underestimating the political weight of the local government.

He further stated that political disagreements should be settled at the polls rather than through intimidation or public insults. According to him, votes remain the ultimate weapon in politics, and those who attack Obio/Akpor politically would be “punished with votes” during elections.

Wike concluded by reaffirming that his appointment and continued stay in office rest solely on the confidence of President Tinubu, stressing that no amount of political pressure or agitation would change that constitutional reality.
