Each beneficiary, drawn from across the 34 Local Government Areas of the state, received a cash grant of ₦200,000 under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Elderly Support Scheme, themed “Finding Joy in Old Age.”

The programme, which represents the third edition of the Elderly Support Scheme, was held on Tuesday at the Banquet Hall of the Katsina Government House and also featured free medical check-ups for diabetes, hypertension and other age-related ailments.

Senator Tinubu was represented at the event by the Katsina State First Lady, Mrs Zulaihat Radda, who reassured beneficiaries of the Federal Government’s continued commitment to alleviating the challenges faced by senior citizens across the country.

She urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the funds, prioritise their health and ensure they maintain a balanced and healthy lifestyle.

“The beneficiaries are 65 years and above, and we want them to know that we love them and are still with them. Let them use the money given to them to eat good and healthy meals, take care of their health, and use part of it to start small-scale businesses to sustain their lives,” she said.
“Through this scheme, we continue to express our gratitude and care for the men and women who laboured to build the Nigeria we are all proud of today. This initiative supports 250 vulnerable elderly citizens aged 65 and above in all the 36 states, the FCT, as well as veterans linked to the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association,” she added.

The First Lady noted that ₦50 million is allocated to each state under the scheme, with beneficiaries receiving ₦200,000 each, stressing that the Renewed Hope Initiative complements broader social welfare policies of the Tinubu administration aimed at improving the quality of life of Nigerians, especially the elderly.
